Foundry is a graphic design studio working across commercial, cultural, and independent practice. Founded by Jessie Stanley (nee Fairweather) upon her return to Australia from renowned studios Fabrica (Italy), and Studio Dumbar (Holland), a distinctive european influence is evident in our attention to detail, imagination, love of form, and sense of humour.

Commercial and cultural clients of commissioned projects include SBS New Media & Film Victoria, State Library of Victoria, Spotless Group, Forster Studios, and Spicers Paper. We enjoy the process of working with our clients: from clarifying the brief and outcome requirements, researching and understanding our client’s industry and competitors, and developing a unique communication solution to meet, and exceed our client’s goals, on budget and on time.

In addition to commissioned work; independently designing, producing and marketing our own products has been an integral part of our business and design practice since our inception in 2003. To date, we have produced limited editions of stationery and publications, and sold them successfully in stores such as Readings in Australia, and Magma Bookstores in the UK.

We embrace the craft of print production, and believe in producing printed material of the highest quality within budget. We utilise traditional commercial printing, and we also screen print by hand in our studio, and are currently setting up for letterpress print also.

Our work has been recognised both at home and abroad, and awarded by the Type Director’s Club of New York, Young Guns International Advertising Awards, and the Australian Graphic Design Association.

Mission!

We believe that the value of design lies in it’s potential to educate, aid the exchange of ideas, raise awareness, bring unity, and inform.

We strive to further the endeavour of design. We want to do this by creating clever, useful, and positive design products, and collaborating with others with important, exciting, and ethical agendas to help realise their goals.

We want to create more demand for good design through realising projects that enrich our culture and human experience, and we are passionate about utilising design to facilitate the free exchange of ideas.

We want to work openly, engage in debate, and contribute to creating a design community that demands this.
